How well do you really know the underwriting process in Commercial Lending? This workshop will enable participants to discover their level of proficiency in analyzing, approving, and managing commercial loans and build competency where needed. The program uses real life comprehensive case studies where participants are required to review case details and recommend a course of action.
The overall objective of the School is the application and interpretation of existing knowledge of all aspects of commercial lending including Credit Underwriting, Loan Structuring, Loan Portfolio Management, Loan Documentation, Credit Rating, etc. During the analysis of case studies, instructors will lead discussions on participants’ observations, analysis, documentation, recommendations, and management of the cases, coaching them on the most effective management process where needed.
OBJECTIVES
Participants will be exposed to comprehensive case studies to enhance their ability to:
- Analyze industry, management, and business risks
- Determine a borrower’s financial strength through credit ratios for commercial & industrial and commercial real estate loans
- Recognize hidden dangers in commercial real estate lease agreements that could affect the ability of borrowers to repay loans
- Structure both short-term and long-term loans to match the expected inflow of cash
- Determine true debt coverage using ratio cash flow and global cash flow analysis
- Complete a financial forecasting and sustainability growth analysis
- Understand capital budgeting before capital assets are acquired
- Utilize a loan agreement and other commercial loan documentation required to protect the bank’s interest in borrowers’ assets pledged as collateral
- Assign credit risk ratings to commercial, industrial, and real estate loans
- Effectively manage a loan portfolio to protect the bank’s interest in the loan from a risk and documentation perspective
- Recognize credit administration issues, including the identification of troubled debt restructuring and the management of problem loans
- Prepare a credit presentation utilizing effective writing skills to highlight relevant facts and ignore unnecessary commentary
PRESENTERS
Jeffery W. Johnson, Principle, Bankers Insight Group is a training professional in the banking industry leading various seminars covering important topics relating to issues in banking. He teaches actively for fifteen state banking associations in the United States, Risk Management Association (RMA) and individual banks nationwide. He co-authored a training course entitled “Lending to Service and Other Professional Organizations” for RMA in 2001.
